Our flags are handmade in the USA from #2 pine hand-picked at our local lumber yard. The wood for the Union (star area of the flag) is Premium Radiata Pine (No knots) from New Zealand, and it carves exceptionally well. After ripping the wood into stripes with our table saw, we glue all knots, even tight ones, using high-quality C.A. glue to ensure no future fall-out problems. If needed, we sand that area after gluing.
We carefully burn all sides and examine which side looks the best, making the back look finished. Then, we determine which stripes are best for white stripes. When we find one that appears too dark, we sand and burn it again. Then we stain the red stripes, or if chosen, black ones. When we create a police flag, we burn just the outer part of the thin blue line stripe to make it pop.
A CNC machine precisely carves the stars and emblems. Each component is hand-torched to enhance its grain and then hand-stained. We glue the Union and stripes together with the best glue available, Titebond III Ultimate, and clamp them together. Next, we spend roughly fifteen minutes removing excess glue from the flag’s surface. The flag remains clamped for 24 hours. Then, we spray the flag with Minwax Helmsman Spar Urethane clear to seal its surface; it gives a nice sheen. During this build process, we inspect repeatedly.
After the clamps come off, we attach the plastic-coated wire on the back to hang your flag. We install two strands of plastic-coated wire on the large and medium-size flags, even though one wire is sufficient. This takes time, but we want you to have a quality product.
Since we started in 1998, we have built our flags one at a time. They are not mass-produced and are finished in two weeks or less. Around holidays, it may take a couple of additional days. Our flags are quality heirlooms; we think they are the best on the market! We do all the above to ensure you are 100% satisfied.
